The fragrance market is made up of a staggering amount of scents. Some old, some new, some strong and some subtle. Perfume fragrances have been sourced from every continent on earth but the biggest markets tend to be in the west. The higher disposable income and fashion culture has meant that western society has largely dominated sales but this may be set to change. Those companies who are heavily invested in the market have been heading towards the Arab States however, as there have been some very promising sales of late

There is healthy progression in the market currently, with a predicted gross worth of approximately $40 billion by 2015. The Arabian Peninsula is currently responsible for around $270 million of this but the rate of growth is much higher than other countries. Last year for instance saw an increase in sales of over 20%.

The staggering growth in the market, shared with Asia-Pacific and the Middle East, has been put down to increased money in the area and a differing way of life. The Arab States have also been practitioners of using fragrances. In Saudi Arabia for example, around 85% of women use scents every day. However, the types of fragrance have changed, with more high market women’s perfume brands replacing the more traditional products. Also, men are increasingly using scents to express themselves and they are purchasing a much wider range of fragrances for themselves.

The rise in the market profile here has drawn in some large companies and also spawned some via high profile trade events. The next show in the area, which is arguably among the biggest 3 in the world, is the great Beautyworld Middle East. This year will see an 18% increase in visitors and around 900 exhibitors, showing more than 1,500 brands. Next years show is already in the planning stages as those in charge suggest that the increase in numbers will only keep going
